VietLing is a desktop app for Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu. This page lists where it runs, what it needs, and where the support boundary sits.
Platforms
| Platform | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 11 (x86_64) | Supported | The full feature set, end to end. |
| Windows 11 (ARM64) | Preview | Works, but may be incomplete. |
| macOS (Intel) | Supported | The full feature set, end to end. |
| macOS (Apple Silicon) | Preview | Works, but may be incomplete. |
| Ubuntu (Xorg) | Preview | Requires an Xorg session. Wayland sessions are outside the supported matrix. |
Preview means the platform works and is being tested, but the experience may be incomplete and may change. Platforms not listed are unsupported.
Required on every platform
- A VietLing Account login, with a one-time First Setup privacy consent, before a Selection is sent to a provider.
- An internet connection for login, Service Tier checks, provider-backed Translation, and checkout. These depend on the VietLing backend.
- On-device tasks - local Translation models, Dictation, Grammar Correction, and Dictionary Packages - run without external requests once installed.
Hardware
- Every on-device capability runs on CPU out of the box. No special hardware is required.
- Where a supported GPU or NPU path exists - Windows ML, CoreML, CUDA, TensorRT, MIGraphX, or OpenVINO - VietLing prepares it in the background and proves it against CPU before use.
Optional observation
On Windows and supported Xorg sessions, the optional Selection Button uses global input observation so it can appear when you select text. The Translation Shortcut works without it, and it can be turned off in the Options Window.
Distribution
Planned channels are the Microsoft Store, the Mac App Store (a reduced feature build), the Snap Store, and the Direct Desktop Channel on GitHub Releases (github.com/vietling/vietling-releases). None are live yet - this page is updated when a channel opens.
